Boxes are drawn with their length in proportion to capacity, so the sizes compare fairly against each other. They are not a scale drawing — call us before measuring a tight driveway and we will give you the exact footprint of the box you are booking.

What the 12-yard is for

The 12-yard exists for the job that is genuinely bigger than a garage clearout but nowhere near a whole house. A bathroom stripped to the studs. A kitchen where the cabinets, countertops and flooring all come out. A basement that has been storing furniture for a decade. It is the size most remodels actually need.

It carries an extra quarter-ton of allowance over the 10-yard, which matters more than the extra volume. Remodel debris is dense — old tile, plaster, cabinet carcasses and subfloor add up quickly, and that additional weight headroom is usually what keeps a job from going over.

Typical 12-yard jobs

  • Kitchen remodels
  • Bathroom remodels
  • Medium cleanouts

Weight is the real limit

The 12-yard includes 1.25 tons of disposal weight. For mixed remodel debris that is a comfortable allowance, but it is still an allowance — the container will usually reach its weight limit before it reaches the top rail if you are throwing out anything mineral.

Tile, plaster and mortar are heavier than they look. A single bathroom's worth of tile and backer board can account for a surprising share of your allowance on its own. Weight over the included tonnage is billed at $25 per 0.1 ton, charged after the container is weighed at the disposal facility.

Concrete, brick, stone, gravel and dirt cannot go in — they require a different facility entirely. If your remodel involves removing a masonry hearth or a tiled slab, call us before the container arrives and we will work out a separate arrangement.

12-yard or 15-yard?

If the job is one room, the 12-yard is right. If it is a kitchen and a bathroom, or a remodel plus the accumulated contents of the rooms around it, look at the 15-yard — it is our most popular size for a reason, and the price gap is smaller than the cost of running out of room halfway through a demo weekend.

Going the other way: if you are clearing a single room and nothing structural is coming out, the 10-yard will probably do and will fit in a tighter spot.
